The Homestead Projects for Street Children, successfully transitions neglected and traumatized children away from the street, back home or onto successful independent living through a holistic set of prevention, outreach, stabilization, residential care and family reunification and youth transition programmes. 

The Homestead seeks to appoint a qualified Social Auxiliary Worker at our new Drop-in Centre in Mitchells Plain. This Centre offers therapeutic services, family support and development programmes to 100 vulnerable, abused and chronically neglected children

Responsobilities

  • Coordinate the Drop-in Centre programmes in Mitchells Plain.
  • Assisting the social worker at the centre in providing psychosocial support and family preservation services to address individual and family needs.
  • Assist with linking and referring clients to other relevant resources when necessary.
  • Plan, implement and facilitate the Mitchells Plain Drop-in Centre daily programme which includes after-school support, life-skills, nutrition programmes as well as a holiday programme.
  • Coordinate parent training and family support programmes.
  • Conduct home and school visits in the Mitchells Plain community as well as run public awareness and education programme in the community.

Minimum requirements

  • Recognized Social Auxiliary Work qualification.
  • Proof of current registration with the SA Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
  • Afrikaans as well as English speaking
  • Preference will be given to employees who have a valid driver’s license.
  • Administrative tasks including capturing Monitoring and Evaluation stats.
  • Fieldwork/community work experience as a SAW will be an advantage.
  • Reporting writing and record keeping
  • Computer literacy in Word, Excel, Gmail and social media
